During President Johnson’s State of the Union address, the focus was mostly drawn towards the appeal for Congress regardless of political affiliation. The goal was to come together and end poverty in the U.S. “Let us be remembered as a President and a Congress who tried to improve the quality of life for every American” As shown above this document as well as the others demonstrate the way that the Great Society aimed toward reducing poverty, and uniting all Americans as one.
