When writing an essay, sources can be just as important as your very words. It is not until after your paper is said and done that you can glimpse back and critique your sources; that is usually when you realize just how useful or relevant they really were. The American Dream is a blend of many ideas put together into one, because no one can really just come out and say, "hey, here is the one and only definition of the American Dream and if you do not abide by it, you will fail at life." Granted, we are all allowed to an opinion; below you will find the many opinions of my essay sources.

Gatsby. This is a top-notch example of how the Dream blends in to many ideas -- be it negative or positive. This novel is a symbol of the decline of the American Dream. The Dream is, in my opinion, the belief that everyone has the opportunity to achieve their goals and become prosperous if they work hard enough. In The Great Gatsby, nobody can get what they really want even if they work hard. This source stands out to me because it is the only one that stomps its foot, stands its ground, and says, no -- the American Dream is not a dream after all.
