Fibromyalgia Syndrome


FMS () is a widespread musculoskeletal pain and fatigue disorder for which the cause is unknown. Fibromyalgia means pain in the muscles, ligament and tendons. FMS used to be call fibrositis, meaning it was an inflammation of muscles, but researchers then found inflammation did not occur. Patients will FMS say they ache all over, and that their muscles have been pulled and overworked. Sometimes the muscles are twitched and sometimes they burn. More women get FMS than men, the ratio of women to men is 20:1. It can show up at all ages. People say that their energy supply has been unplugged.

Researchers found that patients could fall asleep without much trouble, but their deep level (or stage 4) sleep was constantly interrupted by bursts of awake-like brain activity.
