How Sex Education Should Be Taught

The question is no longer should sex education be taught, but rather how should it be taught. According to the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the U.S., 89 percent of the nearly 20 million public secondary school students will take sex education. Eighty-seven percent of Americans favor having sex education in the schools. Parents agree topics such as reproduction, HIV/AIDS and STDs, and messages about abstinence should be standard. They would also like schools to address "controversial" issues like abortion and sexual orientation, as well as teach coping and communication skills.
