my almost 2 year old niece, provides a real-world example of operant conditioning and positive reinforcement through potty training techniques. Before undergoing the stages of operant conditioning, Stella was not potty trained and still wore diapers. To begin the process, my sister and I took Stella to Target and let her pick out her own potty; this way, Stella knew the potty was only hers and it was something she picked herself. We also purchased the needed supplies to create a reward chart for my niece; the idea behind the chart was to use stickers and candy as positive reinforcers each time Stella used the potty. The stickers and candy were the reinforcers in the scenario. Each time Stella would use the potty she would receive a rainbow star sticker, and after 5 stickers she would receive a lollipop or treat for her success.
