(“An Emerging)The country faces serious social and economic problems that are associated with the overpopulation from degradation of land and resources to pollution and unhealthy living conditions. Because of the large population and the fear of it becoming unbearably large for human living, the Chinese government under leader Deng Xiaoping, designated a law that would help limit China’s population growth.(“geography”) In 1979 China established its “One Child Policy”, which limits ethnic Han couples in urban areas to having only one child. In order to reinforce this policy if a family has more than one child they are capable of being fined, they are pressured to abort the pregnancy, and can even be forced to sterilization. The policy also states that citizens must obtain a birth certificate before the birth of their children in order to make sure that they were not having more than one child.
