Ask just about anyone and they will tell you that they are in favor of equal rights for homosexuals. Then you ask them about same-sex marriage and all they said about equality stops. Same-sex marriage is marriage between two people of the same biological sex. Since 2001 ten countries have been allowing same-sex marriages, such as Argentina, Canada, Spain, Sweden, and Portugal. In the religious point of view, same-sex marriages are seen like a sin. Some of the reasons people give for being against gay marriage are that marriage is an institution between a man and a woman, and that gay marriage is immoral and violates the sacred institution of marriage. They say that the Bible condemns gay marriage, but freedom of religion implies that we have the right to accept whichever religion we want or none at all. American democracy gives a person the right to decide who they want to spend their life with. If one believes in religious freedom, the recognition that opposition to same-sex marriage is based on religious arguments is reason enough to discredit it.
