In the 1990’s, the sociological definition of a family is rapidly falling away from the typical 2.5 children, husband, wife and picket fence vision that was a product of the baby boomer era. Single parent, and blended families are becoming increasingly accepted so, why discriminate in terms of sexuality? With rising numbers of openly gay “partnerships”, it seems only logical to extend to these couples the right to legally marry. Homosexuals should have the right to be united not only through love, but also through law.

A common fear is the potential disillusion of the marriage contract between a man and a woman. They believe this contract encompasses terms including the ability and expectation of procreation. Though these points are valid, they are somewhat irrelevant due to the separation of church and state.
