The human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a hormone that appears during pregnancy. It is made in the placenta which nourishes an egg that has be fertilized and attached to the uterine wall. This hormone can only be detected eleven days after conception in a blood test or twelve to fourteen days after conception in a urine test. A low hCG levels could mean wrong pregnancy dating, a possible miscarriage or blighted ovum, or an ectopic pregnancy. An increased hCG levels can indicate wrong pregnancy dating, molar pregnancy, or multiple pregnancies.
