Conflicts Of Opinions In The Government

Throughout time, there have been many conflicts in opinion regarding how the country was going to be run. They were both members of Washington’s cabinet, and the two had different opinions on almost everything. At the core of their arguments was what was best for the country in the future. This paper will explore some of those differences of opinion. Also, it will explore George Washington’s view on the subjects.

His followers called themselves the Democratic Republicans. “Cultivators of the earth,” Jefferson wrote, “are the most valuable citizens.” This belief could be due to the fact that he was a farmer himself. Jefferson thought that agriculture should be the backbone of the economy, and that an industrial economy would corrupt the nation. He wanted us to American’s to purchase manufactured goods from Europe. He believed that the general citizenry should have all of the power, not a federal government. Jefferson believed that the state government should be stronger than the federal government. Jefferson opposed the protective tariffs, which would favor goods manufactured over seas.
One major area of major disagreement concerned setting up the Bank of the United States. Since the Constitution didn’t specifically address the issue of a national bank, Jefferson and his followers opposed it saying that it was unconstitutional. ...
