Many people cannot receive insurance through their employers, nor can they receive it individually because of the high premiums. Others do not have it because of pre-existing conditions. Meaning, certain medical conditions will prevent people from obtaining insurance. Insurance companies are directly responsible for the high premiums and the different health standards that people must meet in order to be insured. Insurance companies leave many Americans uninsured because of their high premiums and policies. This leaves millions of Americans living without insurance and having no way to obtain it. As part of the study, researchers found that the underinsured behave a lot like the uninsured when it comes to medical care.
