The purpose of this paper is to introduce, discuss, and analyze the topic of job analysis in human resources. Specifically, it will explain what job analysis is, what different methods are used to analyze jobs, and what the advantages and disadvantages are, in order to convince the reader job analysis is a useful and needed thing. Job analysis is a necessary part of human resources for a number of reasons. It gives a clearer picture of each job in an organization, and it shows where time and energy are being wasted, and where they could be better utilized. Many different methods are used to complete competent and thorough job analyses. One of the most common methods used to begin a detailed job analysis is a job classification. There is a specific job classification system used by government and local entities, and there is a U.S. Standard Occupational Classification System developed by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) for guidance in creating standard job classification systems and titles. If a business has no job classifications in place, this is a good place to begin the task of job analysis, by using these standard definitions to define and classify existing jobs.
