According to Milan Kundera �business has only two functions � marketing and innovation� (ThinkExist.com, 2010). When most people think of marketing, generally it is referring to the advertising of a product or service; however marking is much more. The author of this paper will discuss the meaning of marketing from two different sources, based on those definitions this student will explain the importance of marketing in organizational success, she will also provide three examples from the business world to support her explanation.

This student�s definition of marketing is the process involved with creating a product or service, from the step of creating it to the final stage of the consumer using it. Marketing involves a great deal more than just advertising, the marketing mix sums it up nicely; the marketing mix is the four P�s: product, place, promotion, and price. Marketing takes in all aspects of the product or service, from the development of the product or service to the purchase by consumers.
Importance of Marketing
From the definitions above one can easily see why marketing is important to organizational success. Organizations need to place a high significance on the marketing departments with planning. Each product or service should have a marketing plan.
