“RRRRRINGGGGG RRRRRINGGGG RRRRRRRRRRRRINGGGGGG!” Mike’s alarm sounded every morning as he flew out of bed ten minutes before his bus arrived. He ran down stairs and grabbed a package of peanut butter crackers for breakfast, without even having time to brush his teeth. As he rounded the corner he watched his school bus full of all of his friends pull away without he in it. Once again mike would have to call his mom and ask for her to drive him to school.
After he go back from school Mike would lay down on his couch and watch a few hours of TV, or however long he pleased. When he was finally bored of the television he would walk over to his buddy’s house and play stickball in the drive way ...

Not every day was the same, but Mike was allowed to do whatever he pleased everyday of the week.
Mike’s parents are raising their child in a Rousseauian fashion. Jean-Jacques Rousseau believes that parents should not interfere with their child’s learning and growing. Rousseau states, “Everything degenerates in the hands of man.”(book 1, pg 37) Rousseau thinks that people should learn through nature, other men and things rather than having ideas and beliefs drilled into their heads. For example, Rousseau does not mind if you tell a child that if they put their hand on a stove it will burn, but if the child puts his hand near a stove after he is told this, Rousseau believes it is best that the child experience for himself the burning sensation to learn from his mistakes. A child learns very quickly what is right and wrong through experience and Rousseau does not think people should try and force these lessons upon their child, but rather they learn from their mistakes.
