The most important thing you need for walking is a pair of shoes. To determine a good pair is they will be flexible and form with each step you take. Be sure to wear a pair of socks that are comfortable. They make sweat-wicking socks that help keep your feet drier than cotton.

The other part to be good walking is, comfortable clothes. Dress appropriately according to the weather. When it is warm wear one layer, a light t-shirt and shorts. Chilly weather you can wear two layers, a t-shirt and a windbreaker and lightweight sweats. In cold weather wear up to how many layers you want. Walking far enough will warm up your body and you may not need too many layers.
